The German sprinters dominate the World Cup opener in Manchester - above all Kristina Vogel from Erfurt. After her success in the team sprint with partner Miriam Welte and the victory in the sprint, Vogel also secured first place in the keirin today with a strong final run. With more than one lap to go, she increased the pace and thus relegated her competitors to world champion Rebecca James (Great Britain) to places.
In the men's sprint competition, Robert Förstemann from Gera was also dominated by a driver in BDR dress. Förstemann clearly prevailed in the final against Olympic fourth-placed Njisane Nicholas Philip (Trinidad and Tobago).
Laura Trott (Great Britain) secured the women's omnium. She relegated Gillian Carleton (Canada) and Laurie Berthon (France) to their places.
In the last competition of the World Cup, however, the Austrian Andreas Müller provided one of the most exciting moments of the entire weekend. In the scratch he attacked with almost ten laps to go. Solo, he then increased his lead over the chasing pursuers and finally saved a bike length to the finish. Second was the Italian Elia Viviani, third was the Welshman John Mold.
