The triathlon season is about to peak. The excitement for the start of the Ironman Hawaii is increasing. Time for us to take a close look at some Tri products. Let's start with the Pearl Izumi Tri Fly IV – a cycling shoe that should probably be difficult to miss in the field.

equipment and practice

The almost 270 grams light Tri Fly IV is a genuine triathlon shoe that leaves a soft and comfortable first impression on the foot. Inside, a unidirectional carbon sole ensures a stable footing, and two large Velcro fasteners on the instep keep the foot in position. A positive aspect is that you can already put the lower fastener in the right position before the race, while the upper fastener can also be easily adjusted during competitions due to its size. This makes it much easier to get started under time pressure. The easy-to-grip tab on the heel also plays its part.

The upper of the Tri Fly IV is made of imitation leather, which is set off with mesh inserts on the instep. Pearl Izumi manages to incorporate good ventilation in the forefoot of the shoe. The openings above the toes and the recesses on the sole also help to dry your feet quickly after swimming. In addition to the ventilation openings, the sole also has other properties. There are small caps in the area of the toes as well as the heel, which are supposed to protect the sole when walking. The area of the plate holder is reinforced and offers a comfortable adjustment range.

The fit of Tri Fly IV is good if you have a relatively narrow forefoot. Also, the shoe runs a bit small compared to other models of the same size. It is therefore advisable to Tri Fly IV choose at least half a size larger.

Conclusion

The Tri Fly IV are a real eye-catcher. However, the screaming yellow and blue color scheme doesn't hide the true strengths of the shoe. Thanks to its good ventilation and its pleasantly stiff sole, the  Tri Fly IV not only for short distances, because the shoe guarantees good power transmission and pleasant comfort over a longer period of time. In short: Pearl Izumi has with the Tri Fly IV created a real evergreen!
