Mini compressor pump for aesthetes in the test: Fumpa Pumps miniFUMPA

February 26, 2024 by Andrew Waldera

Fumpa Pumps miniFUMPA

Compressor pump test: According to manufacturer Fumpa Pumps, the miniFUMPA is said to be the perfect alternative to CO2 cartridges and mini pumps. With a size of 68 x 57 x 34 millimeters, the mini compressor pump actually fits in almost any saddle or jersey pocket. The high maximum pressure of 8,3 bar also speaks for itself. Our test shows what else the miniFUMPA can and cannot do.

Fumpa Pumps miniFUMPA: structure and functions

With the FUMPA we already had the slightly larger model with a digital display and a slightly higher battery capacity in the Velomotion compressor pump test. With its size of 68 x 57 x 34 millimeters, the MiniFUMPA is limited to the essentials. This model completely dispenses with a pressure gauge, but costs only slightly less at 119,00 euros. The very good workmanship quality and the elegant finish also characterize this smart model. Aesthetes will definitely get their money's worth.

In contrast to the larger FUMPA, the miniFUMPA does not have a separate, protected on/off switch. The pumping process is only started with the exposed switch button - and unfortunately this can also happen accidentally, for example when transporting the pump in the saddle bag. However, there is no difference between the two models when it comes to the maximum air pressure of 8,3 bar and the charging option. The built-in 400 mAh battery is charged using the included USB-C charging cable.

The compressor pump in the test

As with the FUMPA, depending on the valve, the valve attachment must be unscrewed and adjusted using the rubber ring inserted. This can be annoying in cold or rainy conditions, especially since the small metal pin for the Schrader valve can quickly get lost. Otherwise, handling is uncomplicated: place the pump on the valve, start it and you're done. Despite the extremely small housing, the mini compressor pump wastes no time when inflating. For a 700x23C tire it only takes 4 seconds to reach the 20 bar mark, after a total of 65 seconds the tire is filled with 8 bar.

Comparison miniFUMPA (left) and FUMPA (right)

The measured values are impressive. However, the battery runs out of air after two tires, which is why the pump should definitely be charged before the tour. What is also noticeable when working is the high noise level and the strong heat generation, which is why even the manufacturer recommends a metal valve extension for latex/polyurethane hoses with plastic valve stems. Both the miniFUMPA and the larger FUMPA basically enable tubeless tires to be inflated. However, the tire/rim combination plays a big role. If you want to be on the safe side, you shouldn't rely exclusively on the miniFUMPA.
