Vingegaard completes the strong preliminary work

With an impressive start jonas vingegaard (Jumbo – Visma) clinched his seventh win of the season. The Dane was staged perfectly by his teammate Attila Valter on the extremely steep final climb. After 162,8 kilometers Vingegaard won in front of the Spaniards at the winery in Amasa-Villabona Mikel Landa (Bahrain – Victorious) and Enric Mas Nicolau (Movistar). A better result remained Sergio Higuita (Bora - hansgrohe) - who is actually perfectly suited to such arrivals - unfortunately denied. The Colombian wanted Juan Pedro Lopez placeholder image (Trek – Segafredo) overtook, but touched the barrier slightly and had to get off his bike. As a result, he held, among other things Richard Carapaz (EF Education – EasyPost) on.

Many attacks in the last kilometers

Originally there was a breakaway group, including with Simon Geschke (Cofidis), several minutes ahead of the peloton. But already 25 kilometers from the finish were with the German George Zimmerman (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty) and the French Remi Cavagna (Soudal – Quick-Step) caught the last two fugitives. Then they broke up Stephen Chaves (EF Education – EasyPost), Laurens Huys (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty) and Build Mollema (Trek – Segafredo) three other riders. For the latter two, the escape attempt was over ten kilometers later, while Chaves continued as a soloist. With 6 kilometers to go, the Colombian champions were joined by James Knox (Soudal – Quick Step) and Juan Pedro Lopez placeholder image (Trek – Segafredo). But the speed work in the peloton by Jumbo - Visma and Movistar bore fruit and the trio was caught again on the final climb.

Carapaz venía a rueda de Vingegaard y Mas, una buena ubicación para the sprint final pero un enredon entre varios ciclitas le privó de ir a pelear por la etapa. #Itzulia2023
