Cycling: Thymen Arensman has won the 15th stage of the Vuelta a Espana. The Dutchman was the only escape from the favorites to the finish. Behind them, the classification drivers fought a bitter battle for valuable seconds.
Evenepoel loses time again
The Vuelta a Espana is getting narrower and narrower. As already announced yesterday, the form of Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) is slowly fading away. The Belgian revealed weaknesses again on the final climb. In the last few kilometers he was no longer able to follow the pace of his opponents. He lost up 15 seconds Primois Roglic (Jumbo – Visma), even 39 seconds Enric Mas Nicolau (Movistar). As a result, the top 3 in the overall standings are getting closer and closer together. Remco Evenepoel's lead has now fallen to 1:34 minutes and 2:01 minutes respectively over Roglic and Mas. Tomorrow the pros will have their well-deserved third and last day of rest on the tour.
Arensman WINS as a soloist
The day's victory on the 15th stage of the Vuelta a Espana went to a breakaway. Thyman Arensman (DSM) was the only one of around 30 fugitives to save himself from the favorites. The Dutchman saved 1:23 minutes Enric Mas Nicolau (Movistar) and 1:25 ahead of Miguel Angel lopez (Astana) crossed the finish line. This also improves him enormously in the overall standings. Before the start of today's 152,6-kilometre section from Martos to Sierra Nevada, he was eleventh.
