On the ninth stage of the Giro d'Italia up the Blockhaus we got a foretaste of the balance of power of all classification riders. Jai Hindley finally won in the uphill sprint ahead of Romain Bardet and Richard Carapaz. Vincenzo Nibali lost valuable time with 34 seconds. It got even worse for Simon Yates. The Brit, who became the top favourite, lost more than eleven minutes due to knee problems and thus lost all chances of a good placement.
