Product news: Three entrepreneurs from Freiburg founded the startup Tocsen in 2019, with which they launched an emergency call system specially developed for outdoor sports. The fall detection and rescue system, consisting of a fall sensor and a smartphone app, is now used in various helmets from well-known brands such as Uvex or Alpina. The cycling brand Ekoï has also been equipping its bicycle helmets with the Tocsen sensor since October.
Six professional teams will compete in the coming racing season with an Ekoï helmet with integrated Tocsen. Jean-Christophe Rattel, founder and CEO of Ekoï, explains the reasons for choosing the Tocsen system: “We have tested many of the fall sensors currently on the market. Tocsen is by far in first place”. He is impressed by the accuracy of the sensor and the intuitive user experience in the app: "The emergency call system is highly precise in terms of fall detection, avoids false alarms and relies on the community as an active rescue community," continues Jean-Christophe Rattel.
The cycling brand Ekoï is one of the leaders in cycling equipment in France, making it a major player in the European cycling market. With Tocsen, Ekoï also wants to take safety to the next level when preparing for competitions. The focus here is particularly on the professional athletes, who not only train very intensively but also often travel alone. The athletes of the Cofidis & Lotto Soudal teams at the Tour de France as well as the elite team KMC Orbea in the mountain bike world cup rely on an Ekoï helmet with integrated Tocsen.
Of course, hobby and amateur athletes do not have to do without the extra safety. The Ekoï brand currently offers three racing bike helmet models with the Freiburg fall sensor in its online shop. According to information, Tocsen and Ekoï are already working together to integrate Tocsen into other models for the mountain bike sector. If you want to upgrade your own helmet with Tocsen, you can get the fall sensor and the free app from tocsen.com or from well-stocked specialist shops.
