Radcross: The first race of the Radcross World Cup is behind us. Michael Vanthourenhout and Lucinda Brand can celebrate in Tabor.

Vanthourenhout celebrates his third win of the season

Michael Vanthourenhout is the first overall leader of the new cyclocross World Cup season. The Belgian triumphed in today's race in Tabor, Czech Republic, ahead of his compatriots Eli Iserbyt and Wout Van Aert. The latter once again showed a strong performance and fought his way from the third row of the grid into the leading group right at the start. However, when the eventual winner attacked, he was no longer able to keep up. Eli Iserbyt was able to catch up again, but had to let go again shortly before the finish.

Michael Vanthourenhout:
"The fact that he came back has hurt my legs, but then again it could have been my luck. So I could sit on his rear wheel for another lap. At the end I felt like I had something left.”

Brand begins to dominate the scene

The women took to the track before the men. In the end, three Belgians were honored on the podium among the men, and three Dutch women among the women. Lucinda Brand was able to celebrate again after her victory in Kortrijk just 24 hours ago. In the end, she confidently relegated her compatriots Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado and Denise Betsema to the places. With this, Lucinda Brand celebrates her fifth win of the season - and thus dominates the scene.

Lucinda Brand
"Everyone looked at each other. I wanted to make the group smaller. I figured I'd just try it and see what happens. Because of the lockdown, I spent more time on my bike in the summer. I trained more technique. If you make fewer mistakes, you end up having more power.”

1. Lucinda Brand (Telenet-Baloise) 53:43
2. Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Alpecin – Fenix) +0:24
3. Denise Betsema (Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal) + 0:32
