Bulls Copperhead E2 29 E-MTB on test: Power pack for touring and everyday use

July 12, 2020 by Michael Faiss

Bull's Copperhead E2

Test: The Bulls Copperhead E2 impresses with the powerful Bosch Performance CX motor at a price of just over 2.500 euros. In view of the top engine, many buyers should also be willing to accept the compromises in terms of equipment and battery size.

Bull's Copperhead E2
That's where the fun comes in: The powerful, dynamic engine is also a lot of fun on the flat.
Inside the SR Suntoru fork is a steel spring. Accordingly, adjusting to the driver's weight is hardly possible.
Our test bike was equipped with a 400Wh battery. The 500Wh variant is also available for a few euros more. Here, too, the external battery is semi-integrated on the down tube - we found a good solution.
The 9-speed gear mix from Shimano is solid, but it shouldn't be too steep even with the powerful motor.

The Vee Tire tires are inconspicuous, but the ground should not be too deep due to the flat lugs.
Mounting points anyone? A side stand, mudguards and a luggage rack can be attached to the frame. There are Monkeylink interfaces for the lighting.

At just under 2.600 euros, the Copperhead E2 is the most expensive hardtail E-MTB in our test field; In view of the built-in components, however, it still falls into the "bargain" category. The current generation of the Bosch Performance CX motor in particular stands out here, which is one of the best mid-mounted motors ever and can shine with top marks for support power, naturalness and sensitivity. Apart from that, there is mostly solid fare, the 9-speed gears are sufficient in view of the powerful motor even for steep climbs. The fork, brakes and tires allow occasional excursions into easy terrain. If you are looking for a more comfortable companion for everyday use, you will be happy about the mounting points for side stands, mudguards and luggage racks on the frame. Thanks to MonkeyLink, lighting can be retrofitted without any modifications.

Conclusion: Bull's Copperhead E2

The Bulls Copperhead E2 conveys a high-end feeling at an attractive price, at least in terms of drive. The Bosch CX motor is rare in this price range and pleases with the usual great performance. The somewhat small battery and the at best solid equipment are not too important.
