Cycling: CCC was the first professional cycling team to react to the currently extremely difficult situation. As team boss Jim Ochowicz announced, the drivers will forego a large part of their salaries and some employees will lose their jobs – at least temporarily.
CCC responds to Covid-19
Cycling fans also have to do without racing in the months of April, May and June. Meanwhile, the drivers continue to keep fit in order to be fit for a possible resumption of racing in July. In addition to the uncertainty, the teams are primarily plagued by financial difficulties. As the first team, CCC has now reacted to the difficult situation by cutting salaries and temporarily laying off employees.
CCC team boss Jim Ochowicz:
"In order to keep the team running at a minimal level during this non-racing period, only a very small number of employees will keep their roles. The decision to make the far-reaching cuts was a painful process and one that we did not anticipate, even a few weeks ago. The economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic is having a drastic effect on the business of our title sponsor CCC and like other pro cycling teams we are now facing a lack of funds.”
Ochowicz is hoping for a speedy recovery
In the currently very difficult situation, Jim Ochowicz is hoping for an improvement soon. The decision to cut costs now is intended to help ensure that there is still enough budget left over when racing resumes. The chairman of the company CCC, Dariusz Milek, also spoke publicly. So he understandably justified his decision by saying that he couldn't justify throwing his employees out while a cycling team was still being happily financed.
CCC team boss Jim Ochowicz:
"This is a difficult time for everyone and we will do our best to represent our sponsors and fans as we eagerly await getting back to doing what we love: cycling."
CCC Chairman Dariusz Milek:
“We are now fighting for our company. It would be immoral to reduce our labor costs and maintain spending on cyclists.”
