Product news: The Castelli Gabba is probably the epitome of a rain jersey. Every cyclist, from hobby cyclists to professionals, has it and uses it. The latest generation of the Gabba was only presented last autumn. Some features have been added to ensure even better performance on rainy days. This week the legendary Castelli Gabba celebrates 10 years.
There are few garments that can claim to have created a new category, but the Castelli Gabba is one such product. The Gabba project started in 2009 and was developed together with the riders of the Cervelo test team. Including Gabriel Rasch, after whom the Gabba is named. The aim was to develop a performance-oriented rain jersey, which is primarily suitable for racing. Today it is worn and celebrated by all cyclists.

The history of the creation of the Castelli Gabbas is closely linked to the former professional cyclist Gabriel Rasch, who approached the developers with the idea of a water-repellent short-sleeved jersey. Six months after this idea, the Cervélo test team entered the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2010 with an unprecedented product, the Castelli Gabba. Together with the Cervelo Test Team, the Gabba was further developed and improvements were added.

Such was the success that teams not sponsored by Castelli also wore the Gabba in plain sight during the snowy Milan-Sanremo 2013 event. So did the later winner Gerald Ciolek, who was the happiest in the end thanks to the aerodynamic advantages of the rain protection. Again and again there are stories of a number of professionals and teams who paid for the Gabba out of their own pocket and blacked out the logo with a pen in order to be able to drive it in the race. Team managers often approached the manufacturers and bought gabbas out of their own pockets for the entire team, which were then secretly handed over in garbage bags, as Steve Smith from Castelli tells us.
Only at the last World Championships in Yorkshire could you see a number of professionals in Castelli Gabbas again, although they are not sponsored by Castelli and could even have problems with their actual sponsors. Stories like this have been around for 10 years in the history of the Castelli Gabbas. At wet races you can still often see the Castelli logos painted over so that you don't violate the sponsorship agreements.

Castelli Gabba – The fourth generation
The fourth generation of the Castelli Gabba comes with the biggest performance improvements yet to improve function in different conditions. The aim is to do justice to the name suffix RoS - "Rain or Shine" (rain or shine) and to combine comfort and breathability in dry weather as well as waterproof protection in the best possible way. In collaboration with GORE, two new exclusive Castelli fabrics have been developed for the latest Gabba and Perfetto models, which are more waterproof, breathable and tailored.
The new Gabba RoS features a lightly insulated, windproof and waterproof fabric on the front and a lighter, stretchy fabric on the back to regulate temperature. The seams on the shoulders have been taped for additional rain protection. In addition, the fit is improved by the new fabric, as the material is even more supple. As a further innovation, only two larger jersey pockets have been added, with a small addition for a pump sewn into the right pocket so that it doesn't fly around in the jersey pocket.
