Cycling / MTB: Tomorrow, Friday, October 25.10.2019th, XNUMX, the freeride event of the year will take place in Zion National Park/Virgin(Utah) - The Red Bull Rampage. In recent years, the event has developed into the “Super Bowl” of the bike scene and invites you to stream it in a relaxed biker group. We take a look behind the scenes and try to bring you a little closer to Red Bull Rampage.

Location and hard facts about Red Bull Rampage 2019
For the second time, the Red Bull Rampage is taking place right in the center of Zion National Park. On Friday, Red Bull TV will stream the freeride spectacle live from 18 p.m. CEST. Since its inception in 00 on Kolob Terrace Road at the west end of Zion National Park, Rampage has grown into the largest freeride event in the world and last year it moved to Virgin. Every year the pros raise the bar a little bit higher and the features just keep getting massive. Some absolutely impressive videos and pictures can already be seen on Instagram, YouTube and Co. We're excited for the final run on Friday and unfortunately we can't present you with a favourite, because each of these riders has everything it takes to win the Red Bull Rampage. At the premiere at the new location last year, some athletes understandably complained about the lack of time to build completely new lines at a depth of 2001 meters. The Rampage 235 is different - the terrain and lines from the previous year are known, so the athletes can let their creativity run free when choosing the line.

The 2019 Red Bull Rampage rider field
21 absolute top drivers are loaded to the rampage. Among them ten pre-qualified riders, eight who are taking part in the event with a wildcard and last but not least three riders were able to compete at the Marzocchi Proving Grounds secure a starting place at the qualifying event in Bend/Oregon. Reed Boggs, Juan Diego Salido and DJ Brandt were able to prevail in the extremely strong qualifying event. Among the riders are some Rampage-experienced players in Graham Agassiz, Kyle Strait and Reece Wallace, who can use their experience to help many young riders. Of course, last year's podium is back and Brett Rheeder, Andreu Lacondeguy and Ethan Nell will certainly want to build on their performance from last year or even top it off. Unfortunately, Antoine Bizet and Gee Atherton had to pull out due to injury. Emil Johansson, who seems to be slowly finding his flow again after a long injury break, moved up for Bizet. Gee Atherton's gap remains and only 20 riders will compete instead of 21.

Unfortunately, the event is overshadowed by the death of crowd favorite Jordie Lunn, who died in Mexico on October 09th.
Insights into the construction and testing phase of Red Bull Rampage 2019
At the second edition in the middle of Zion National Park, the riders had ten days to carve their lines into the mountain. Each driver received support from a selected two-man “shape team”. In the following video, Red Bull gives us a glimpse into the "pre-rampage everyday life" of the athletes and their crews.
