Cycling: On the third day of the Deutschland Tour, Immanuel Stark from the P&S Metalltechnik team finished 32nd at the same time as leader Alexander Kristoff. In a race diary, the German mountain champion from 2018 tells us in detail how he experienced this third stage.
Emmanuel Stark: “Could sleep in relaxed today”
"Today we could sleep in. Because the neutral start was only at 13 p.m. So we are at 8:30 very relaxed for breakfast and could eat in peace. In general, breakfast is always very pleasant. We also stayed in a very good hotel with a good location. With our bus we left around 10:30 a.m. to the starting point. When we registered, the moderator asked us about Fabian Käßmann. So we were able to tell the whole tragic story of how the accident happened, what his condition is and how the last few months have gone for him. We are very grateful that we were able to use the stage for this good cause.”
Emmanuel Stark: "I was not clever enough"
“Our goal today was actually to occupy the group. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work out that way. Michel Aschenbrenner, Robert Jägeler and Tobias Nolde were well positioned and tried. I didn't really manage to push my way through the field. I wasn't too clever there. And then unfortunately a group of three left without us. It was also difficult to change anything about this racing situation. On the other hand, the first three hours of racing were relatively restrained. We also had to deal with headwinds for most of the day. Overall, the race was therefore rather slow. Of course, this only applies to the speed and not to our performance. There was always a risk of a wind crest. But we drove very far up front to avoid this problem. The big teams probably just let us do it because they wanted to drive into the wind as little as possible.”
Emmanuel Stark: “I had a really good day today”
“When the route then became more angular and faster, John Mandrysch, Michel Aschenbrenner and Tobias Nolde took part in the follow-up work. The breakaway group was finally brought back by the pace work by us and some big teams. On the final circuit with two hills, the pace picked up again and the field was selected. There were only two of us in a main field of around 70 men. Dominik Röber and I were well taken there by our teammates. They also provided us with drinks, did their job and finally took it easy. But we gave each other a good edge again. Unfortunately, Dominik Röber didn't have another mega day like yesterday. But it still worked out fine. I myself had a really good day for that, which is probably also due to the heat – because that suits me.”
Emmanuel Stark: "More would not have been possible"
“I then finished 32nd and therefore at the same time as Alexander Kristoff and Nils Politt. More would not have been possible for me today. After that we drove to the hotel and relaxed and were massaged. We all just sat down together again, also with the sponsors. We've talked a lot. It was a pleasant atmosphere. But now it's going to bed. Good night."
