Cycling: Richard Carapaz (Movistar) couldn't be caught at the Giro d'Italia. The Ecuadorian lost some of his lead over Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain – Merida) in the final time trial, but could no longer be seriously threatened. The stage win, somewhat surprisingly, went to Chad Haga (Sunweb).
Roglic pushes Landa off the podium
Only yesterday did Mikel Landa (Movistar) took third place in the overall standings with a furious performance. But today could Primois Roglic (Jumbo – Visma) hit back. The Slovenian pushed the Spaniard off the podium by eight seconds. There he is now behind Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain – Merida) and the big winner Richard Carapaz (Movistar). As expected, he couldn't take the overall victory away. The final time trial in Verona over 17 kilometers was just too short for that. It was still challenging, however, what happened with third place in the daily ranking Thomas De Gendt (Lotto – Soudal) is underlined. Also his teammate and top favourite Victor Campenaerts (Lotto – Soudal) couldn't win. The American won with a furious downhill performance Chad Haga (Sunweb). So far he has not really stood out with first-class time trial results.
Ackermann wins the points classification
There was also something for the German cycling fans to celebrate in Verona. As expected, namely Pascal Ackermann (Bora – hansgrohe) as the winner of the points classification. The German champion won two stages and was able to narrowly advance thanks to the other good results Arnaud Demare (Groupama – FDJ) prevail. It was also close in the battle for the white jersey. Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) - despite yesterday's fall - won the youngsters' classification by a margin of 90 seconds Pavel Shivakov (Ineo). In the mountains classification, on the other hand, the fight was a clear affair. Julius Ciccone (Trek – Segafredo) celebrated an unchallenged victory – including a stage win a few days ago.
