On the epic 19th stage, Team Sky succeeded, Leader Simon yates (Mitchelton-Scott) already at the middle of the stage at the Colle delle Finestre. Froome already attacks at Finestre
Curtain up for part two of the Alps trilogy. Over 184 kilometers from Venaria Reale to Bardonecchia, not only should the preliminary decision at the Giro d'Italia 2018 be made today, but cycling history should also be written. The 19th stage took the riders over four classified climbs, with the Colle delle Finestre in the middle of the stage already causing everything to fall apart. At the beginning, the Sky and Astana teams tried to place some professionals in the breakaway group. But Simon yates (Mitchelton-Scott) objected to this effort and kept the gap small. promptly changed Chris Froome (Sky) his tactics. From then on, the pace in the peloton picked up – and there was no longer a breather. 13 kilometers before the summit of Finestre, the stove was off: Simon Yates lost the connection. His teammates Jack Haig and Mikel Nieve stayed with him, but the gap continued to mount. It was clear to them: Yates was losing the Giro d'Italia.

Yates collapses completely
Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana) was the only escape still ahead of the group of favourites, but dropped back into them. Its captain, Miguel Angel Lopez, was struggling and kept losing contact with the main group. When the Finestre's gravel road began, Kenny Elissonde, the last of Sky's helpers, was used up. Chris Froome immediately took the lead and tore a gap. With more than 80 kilometers to go, the Brit was the sole leader. had behind Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) to do the main work. With him were still Richard Carapaz (movistar), Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) and Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana), who was able to fight back. At the top of Finestre, the chasing group was almost a minute behind Chris Froome. Simon yates was already more than eleven minutes behind - and even fell off the podium. In the downhill could Sebastian Reichenbach (Groupama-FDJ) restore contact with the chasing group and subsequently do important work for his captain Pinot. However, the two young professionals Lopez and Carapaz did not take part in this.
Froome slips into the Maglia Rosa
drove into the final climb Chris Froome with a lead of 3:21 in. Virtually he was already wearing the pink jersey. After Sebastien Reichenbach had done his work, he attacked Thibaut Pinot right at the foot of the mountain. At first he could Tom Dumoulin shake off, but last year's Dutch winner drove his own rhythm and didn't really let himself be distanced. In addition to the fight for the pink jersey dueled Miguel Angel Lopez and Richard Carapaz about white. But since everyone involved drove to the stop, there were no longer any great gaps. Behind stage winner Chris Froome, Richard Carapaz secured second place ahead of Thibaut Pinot, Miguel Angel Lopez and Tom Dumoulin. Dumoulin is now 40 seconds behind Froome in the overall standings. The fight for white also remains exciting: Lopez is only a few seconds ahead of Carapaz. All decisions will be made on tomorrow's final mountain stage.
