The Slovak champion – actually in top form for a whole season – is struggling with a not exactly easy spring. But the Tour of California has been running since tonight. Sagan feels at home here and has already won his 17th stage. In the mass sprint in Sacramento, he narrowly beat himself Travis McCabe (national team USA) prevail. The Germans also presented themselves strongly. Max Walscheid (Sunweb) came third, John Degenkolb (Trek – Segafredo) Seventh and Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain – Merida) Eighth. Thanks to a gap, there was a time difference of four seconds between sixth and seventh place. Peter Sagan now leads the seven-day tour as the overall leader. On the coming stages, however, there are a few mountains to be overcome, so that he will have to give up his jersey.
