Cycling: All the experts expected an exciting duel between Tom Dumoulin and Rohan Dennis at the Cycling World Championships in the time trial in Innsbruck. In the end, however, the defending champion had no chance. The Australian confidently relegated the Dutchman to second place. Bronze was won by European champion Victor Campenaerts from Belgium.
Rohan Dennis proves supremacy in individual time trial
In the end, the gaps were enormous. Rohan Dennis can be celebrated as the new world champion in the time trial, as he was 1:21 minutes faster than in Innsbruck Tom Dumoulin and Victor Campenaerts. After the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France, the defending champion from the Netherlands has two exhausting tours in his legs. The mold structure did not fit. Quite different with Rohan Dennis: The Australian rode the Vuelta a Espana, won both time trials there and came to the World Cycling Championships in excellent condition. On the 52,5 km long and very demanding route from Alpbachtal Seenland to Innsbruck, he didn't give anyone the slightest chance. Unfortunately, the pros from Germany couldn't dream of a medal for long either. Tony Martin ended up #7, Maximilian schachmann at #11. The Swiss should also be on #12 and #26 Stefan Kung or the Austrian Mathias Brandle not really happy.
