Cycling: Tony Gallopin (AG2R La Mondiale) continues the French-tinged 2018 Vuelta a Espana. The Frenchman won the seventh stage as a soloist ahead of Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe). His compatriot Rudy Molard (Groupama-FDJ) remains in the red jersey, while Michal Kwiatkowski (Sky) lost valuable time.
No chance for the escapees
From Puerto Lumbreras to Pozo Alcón, the pros had to cover 182 kilometers at the Vuelta a Espana today. In the first very easy meters, a lead group of seven broke away from the peloton. Michael Woods (EF Education), Alexis Gougeard (AG2R La Mondiale), Floris DeTier (LottoNL Jumbo), Nicola Conci (Trek Segafredo), Edward Ravasi (UAE Team Emirates), Alex Aranburu (Caja Rural) and Oscar Rodriguez (Euskaltel) had no chance of winning the stage, however, as the peloton was able to reconnect with them around 15 kilometers before the finish line. The remarkable end of the stage could begin.
Tony Gallopin attacks at the right moment
On narrow roads with bad asphalt, there were a few falls and defects in the last few kilometers. Among other things, it also caught Michal Kwiatkowski (Sky). The Pole therefore had to accept a time lag of 30 seconds on today's winner of the day and 25 seconds on his opponents in the overall ranking. Meanwhile, quite a few well-known professionals launched attacks. Even Nairo Quintana (Movistar) and Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) presented an offensive driving style. However, the decisive attack started about two kilometers from the finish Tony gallopin (AG2R La Mondiale). No one was able to catch the French, also because the relatively small field of pursuers was at odds. The German Emmanuel Buchman (Bora-hansgrohe) finished 17th and didn't lose any time on his opponents. The red jersey will also be tomorrow rudy molard (Groupama-FDJ) wear.
A superb stage win for @tonygallopin who is left with plenty of time to decide his celebration! 🙌#LaVuelta18 pic.twitter.com/88hqtiIavx
