First Ride: At their in-house exhibition in Waldershof/Bavaria, Cube presented the extensive range of models for 2019. Among other things, the Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 TM 500 27,5. As the name suggests, the Stereo Hybrid comes with 27,5 inch wheels, a Bosch CX motor and a 500Wh Intube battery.
The bicycle manufacturer Cube presents its portfolio for the 2019 model year at the in-house exhibition in Waldershof. Even if there is some news, one thing remains true to itself: the range of different bikes is still huge. The new products also include the Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 TM 500 27,5, which I was able to test with a product manager on the home trails in the Fichtelgebirge.
The name suffix TM should already be known to one or the other Cube fan. This stands for Trail Motion and was already known for a few models from the previous year. It stands for trail-ready equipment with a little more suspension travel and more robust components. For 2019, almost all mountain bike series are now being given a Trailmotion model.
frame/geometry
The frame of the Cube Stereo Hybrid TM is made of aluminum and relies on the proven and stable Gravity Casting. The Bosch Performance CX motor comes in combination with a Bosch Powertube 500 Wh battery that is integrated in the frame. The reach of 450 mm with a frame size of XL or 22″ is noticeably short. In combination with a 67,3° slack head angle and a 74° steep seat angle, you sit comfortably upright on the eMTB. The Stereo Hybrid Trail Motion is available in four frame sizes from S-XL.
Facilities
Cube is currently one of the few manufacturers that mounts reinforced tire casings on e-mountain bikes - great! 2.6 wide dovetails are mounted on the Cube Stereo Hybrid TM and also on other models. With this model on the Newmen Evolution SL E.35, which have been specially developed for e-bikes. The Fox 36 Float and the Fox DPX2 provide the necessary performance. The suspension fork is optimized for e-bikes, which means that Fox has reinforced the steerer tube and the stanchions. The Trail Motion version has 150 mm of travel at the front and 140 mm at the rear.
The Stereo Hybrid comes with the proven Purion display from Bosch as standard. However, the customer can also opt for the new Kiox display, which costs €100 more. The Hybrid Trail Motion is priced at EUR 4799 or EUR 4899 with the Kiox system. The hybrid is stopped by a Magura MT7 that has plenty of braking power. The cockpit is rounded off with Newmen parts and matching colored handles.
With 75Nm, the well-known Bosch Performance Line CX offers sufficient power for the steepest trail sections. It is shifted with a Shimano XT 11-speed. The damper is protected by the frame from stone chips or dirt. A classic four-bar linkage works on the rear triangle, swallowing up any terrain.
On the trail
It was tested on Cube's home trails in Waldershof. Root carpets, steep uphills and demanding downhill passages. Exactly the right thing for the Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 TM to discover the limits. As mentioned above, the reach is very compact. This makes the bike very manoeuvrable and you sit comfortably upright on it, but it is a little lacking in smoothness on the downhills. With its 75Nm and 500 Wh battery, the Bosch CX motor has enough power to tackle steep trail sections.
The Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 TM is an e-mountain bike for all-mountain use. The 150/140 mm potent chassis easily swallows jumps, root carpets or stone fields. Only the damper bottomed out during the first ride in rough passages like in the picture on the left. However, after consulting a product manager, I was informed that other volume spacers are installed in the damper in the production version. That means the final progression is higher and reduces the shock bottoming out.
