Cycling: Nairo Quintana (Movistar) can still win. The Colombian won the seventh stage of the Tour de Suisse after an early attack in front of Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) and Richie Porte (BMC). After more than a year, he can finally celebrate a success again. The Austrian Gregor Mühlberger (Bora-hansgrohe) also presented himself well, finishing fourth in the stage as the best breakaway. Yellow stays on Richie Porte's shoulders – but it's going to be tight.
Quintana attacks early
170,5 kilometers had to be covered on the seventh stage of the Tour de Suisse from Eschenbach to Arosa. No fewer than 29 men saw a good chance of being successful as a breakaway because of their profile. Actually not a bad idea, because after a bumpy start, the final ascent was a long flat section. The highest category mountain in Arosa is 27,4 kilometers long, but only 4,2 percent steep on average. During the ascent, the pros were able to recover in several flat sections - or at least less steep sections. But the escapees didn't get a great lead. So could Nairo Quintana (Movistar) Attack out of the field with 26 kilometers to go and quickly establish contact with the leading group.
Porte defends yellow
As expected, the leading group broke up into its individual parts. Nairo Quintana really pushed the pace and was able to shake off one after the other. Behind them, Team BMC was trying to keep up the pace in the group of favourites. Because Quintana was already wearing the virtual yellow jersey. From the former top group, the Austrian was with him for a long time Gregor Muehlberger (Bora-hansgrohe) before he too was no longer able to follow the high speed of the climber. Then attacked in the peloton Richie porte (BMC). The Australian teamed up with Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) on chasing the Colombian. But this could no longer be caught. Around a kilometer from the finish, Quintana reached the mountains classification, shortly afterwards he was celebrating the stage win. Richie Porte, however, defended his yellow jersey with third place behind Jakob Fuglsang.
