General: Rothaus Hegau Bike Marathon: Tim Böhme gives a farewell performance in front of a home crowd

7 May 2018 by Andrew Waldera

MTB News: Next Sunday, Tim Böhme will be at the start of the 16th Rothaus Hegau Bike Marathon for the last time as an active professional. The decision has been made: After the end of this season it will be over! A dream would of course be to win the last home race.

Without Tim Böhme, something will definitely be missing at the Rothaus Hegau Bike-Marathon! The traditional race and the singer simply belong together. But from next season the event will take place without Tim Böhme as an active professional. The 16th edition of the bike marathon will thus be the final presentation of the cyclist - and certainly very emotional. Racing at home was always nerve-wracking for the Bulls driver. Perhaps the reason why his path to a medal at the championships in Singen was blocked.

"Singing was always a goal, whether it was a World Cup or nothing at all. I always prepare myself especially for it.” – Tim Böhme

The 35-year-old cyclist is undoubtedly one of the best in his field. He has been a Cape Epic competitor eleven times, finishing third in the prestigious race twice. In 2011 he won the bronze medal at the European Championships, and a year later he became German Marathon Champion. According to his own statements, the man from Singen only wants to ride a bike and enjoy himself in the final season. The planning is therefore different than in previous years, and private life has more influence on the sport.

“My contract is expiring and as of today, I will not want to extend it. At some point, once is enough” – Tim Böhme

Next year the professional career will be over. However, the singers may not have to do without their local heroes completely: Participation as a hobby driver is not entirely out of the question next year. But it's not that far yet - and maybe next Sunday he'll succeed as a professional in the last big coup in front of his home crowd in Singen.
