Cycling: It finally worked out for Sam Bennett (Bora-hansgrohe). The Irishman stayed on the back wheel of Elia Viviani (Quick-Step Floors) for the last few kilometers. Only a few meters before the finish he overtook the Maglia Ciclamino - and after six top 3 places can therefore celebrate a victory at the Giro d'Italia for the first time.
Quick-Step Floors is supported
The seventh stage of the Tour of Italy led the professionals over 159 kilometers from Pizzo to Praia a Mare. With Maxime Belkov (Katusha-Alpecin), Markel Irizar (Trek-Segafredo) and Davide Ballerini (Androni Giocattoli), three escapees dominated the flat section. However, the teams of sprinters left no doubts about a bunch sprint. The helpers in the jerseys from Quick-Steo Floors, Wilier Triestina-Selle Italia and EF Education were responsible for the follow-up work. They wanted to position their sprinters Elia Viviani, Jakub Mareczko and Sacha Modolo.
Bennett keeps his eyes on Viviani
After the fugitives were caught up, Viviani in particular was extremely patient. The carrier of the Maglia Ciclamino stayed very far behind and was only brought forward by his teammates in the last kilometers. There he grabbed Modolo's rear wheel and finally passed him to the right. However, Viviani pulled the Irishman Sam Bennett from the German team Bora-hansgrohe with him – and that over the last two to three kilometers. He kept his eyes on Viviani's rear wheel and only started to overtake a few meters before the finish line - with success! Bennett wins ahead of Viviani!
