Product news / MTB: In the 2019 model year, the Basque manufacturer BH has some news in the off-road sector. The star in the portfolio is the new 29er trail bike BH Lynx, but a lot has also happened in the racing area. In addition, the new Expert 29 is a cheap entry-level aluminum model that has inherited many of the properties of its competition counterpart, the Ultimate 29.
BH Bikes Lynx 5 – EWS-ready 29er trail bike
Trail bikes with big wheels - one of the trending topics on the bicycle market in recent years. BH Bikes sends the new Lynx 5 into what is now a highly competitive market. The wheel is a further development of the proven Lynx 4.8 platform. With 29″ wheels and 130mm spring travel front and rear, one would have spoken of a tame touring fully a few years ago – at least on paper.
In the case of the Lynx 5, however, you couldn't be further from reality: After all, the BH-Miranda Racing Team around Karim Amour is also on the road with it in the EWS and the 29er fully has to put up with a lot there. So it comes in handy that, thanks to Boost, there is more than enough space for 29+ tires in addition to the 27,5er wheels in the frame. Of course, the geometry is also fully enduro-compatible: a slack steering angle, long reach and, at just over 430mm, extremely short chainstays for a bike in this class promise a lot of fun.
The Lynx 5 inherited the rear triangle from its "role model", the Lynx 4.8: As with most of their fullies, the Basques rely on the Split Pivot rear triangle by kinematics guru Dave Weagle - the further development of the proven VPP concept combines rocking-free performance with a lot of swallowing pleasure and is certainly one of the best and most potent rear triangles on the market.
The BH Lynx 5 is currently only available with an aluminum frame – a carbon version is also to follow in the summer. In terms of weight, however, it shouldn't be that much more: At 2,8 kg in size M (without damper), the Lynx 5 aluminum frame is already quite lightweight. Last summer we were able to take the bike for a short jaunt in South Tyrol and look forward to being able to take a close look at the carbon version in the near future.
mountain bikes: [Eurobike Media Days 2017] First Ride: BH Lynx 5 – New trail bike for 29″ and B+
Trail bikes have been the big topic in the MTB sector for two or three years now. As a logical consequence of the previous enduro trend, they want to reconcile the downhill skills of the 160mm machines with the all-round virtues of lighter touring bikes and a pinch of playfulness. The Basque manufacturer BH Bikes had previously offered a bike in this category with the Lynx 4.8 […]
You can currently choose from three different configurations of the Lynx 5 between very affordable €1.999 and €3.199.
BH Bikes Lynx Race - trail-ready racing machine
The Lynx Race is the top XC/Marathon fully in the Basque portfolio. It was developed in collaboration with World Cup riders like Jordan Sarrou and Victor Koretzky, who ride BHs with their team KMC Ekoi SR Suntour. It offers 100mm of travel at the front and rear. The rear triangle also works according to the Split Pivot principle and is therefore extremely potent despite the relatively short suspension travel. In view of the technically more and more demanding XC courses, a well-functioning rear end is the logical conclusion.
The geometry is also clearly designed for the technical toilet routes, but should also give hobby riders a lot of pleasure on the home trails. At 68,5°, the head angle is extremely slack for a bike in this class and ensures smooth running even on steeper or rougher sections of the trail.
mountain bikes: Test: BH Lynx Race Carbon – race fully with enduro genes?
Test: A segment that has always been competitive. Almost every manufacturer, whether with or without a World Cup team, now has a powerful race fully as a flagship in their range. Fullies are also becoming more and more popular with professionals due to the increasingly technical routes and the demands on the bikes have also changed as a result. The BH Lynx Race Carbon definitely belongs […]
The BH Lynx Race will be available with three different frames in the 2018 season. The carbon frame of the two top models weighs in at a very light 1.850g, making it one of the lightest XC and marathon fullies currently available. The cheaper Lynx Race RC also gets a carbon frame, but its carbon layup is not quite as complex and therefore weighs a few grams more. The three equipment variants with aluminum frames, which are available from €1.999, enable a good entry-level model. By the way: The geometry is exactly the same for all three frame variants.

BH Bikes Ultimate - Modern race hardtail for the highest demands
The Ultimate 29 is the hardtail counterpart to the Lynx Race full-suspension racing machine. The demands are just as similar: The Ultimate 29 should also be able to prove itself on the most demanding courses of the World Cup. Maxime Marotte's fourth place at the 2016 Olympics on the BH Ultimate 29 shows that it definitely meets these requirements.
As with the Lynx Race, the Ultimate 29 is available with two different carbon frames. In addition to the 980g light top version, you can save a few euros with the RC version - but you have to put up with a little more weight (1.350g in M). Both frames have in common their extremely modern geometry with a slack steering angle and a long top tube, which allows them to be set up with a short stem. With complete Di2 integration and routing options for dropper posts, the Ultimate also offers a wide variety of assembly options.
With ten different equipment variants between €5.999 and €1.499, the Basques cover an extremely wide range of prices and customers with the Ultimate 29.

mountain bikes: Test: BH Ultimate 29 9.7 – longer, flatter, better!
Test: The BH Ultimate 29 gets a completely new frame and new model variants for this year. We took a close look at the BH Suntour KMC team bike and were particularly impressed by the bold geometry, which is unusual for a bike in this class. The Basque company BH Bikes is not very well known in this country, […]
BH Bikes Expert – Inexpensive aluminum entry
The Expert 29 is a new addition to the Basque portfolio. The aluminum hardtail "inherits" many of the tried-and-tested characteristics of the Ultimate 29 - this includes, above all, the geometry suitable for competitions, in which only the head tube has been lengthened to achieve a more comfortable seating position for occasional riders. Of course: the weight is a little higher (frame weight approx. 1.600g), the equipment is not quite as high-quality as the carbon counterpart. Nevertheless: Just the right thing for the first attempts at walking or driving in ambitious MTB sports.
In the 2019 model year, the BH Expert will be available in four configurations between €899 and €1.599 and exclusively with 29″ wheels.
