Cycling: Geraint Thomas (Sky) is about to win the Volta ao Algarve. The Brit, who finished third on stage two yesterday, won today's time trial by 11 seconds ahead of Belgium's Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Soudal) and 19 seconds ahead of Switzerland's Stefan Küng (BMC). Tony Martin (Katusha-Alpecin) was sixth.

Thomas and Sky dominate
On the third day of the Volta ao Algarve, the pros had to complete a 20,3 kilometer individual time trial starting and finishing in Lagoa. As expected, Team Sky presented itself very well in the fight against the clock. The overall leader anyway Geraint Thomas won the stage by a fairly clear margin. Besides him, three other teammates finished in the top ten: Michal Kwiatkowski finished fourth Vasil Kiryienka Ninth and Lukasz Wisniowski finished tenth. The Swiss Stefan Kung can certainly live with third place at this early point in the season. The German Tony Martin lost a whopping 27 seconds to the day's winner and is probably not yet in the desired classic form. In the overall standings, the German Maximilian schachmann (Quick-Step Floors) worked their way up to eighth place. The Sky double leadership, consisting of Thomas and Kwiatkowski, will hardly be able to be blown up.
Volta ao Algarve: Another flat and one mountain stage
At the Volta ao Algarve, a 199,2-kilometre flat stage from Almodôvar to Tavira is scheduled for tomorrow, before the decision in the overall standings is made on the last day. On Sunday, 173,5 kilometers will be covered from Faro to Loulé. At the end, the Alto do Malhão must be climbed. With a length of 2,5 percent, the final climb is not particularly long, but since it has an average gradient of 9,9 percent, there will be a spectacle for the spectators to admire on the already very bumpy stage.
