Cycling: The wait is over – at least for the women. Because the Santos Women's Tour has already started tonight. Stage #1 was won by Annette Edmondson (Wiggle-High5) in a bunch sprint. In the social networks, however, a completely different scene is making the rounds - and once again a target arch was in focus. Then the “Tour Down Under” took on a completely different meaning.
Suddenly the target bow was gone
Strange things happen all the time in cycling. We all remember the case of the kilometer arc at the Tour de France that brought down Adam Yates, or the Orica-GreenEdge bus that got stuck at the finish. Something similar happened today at the Santos Women's Tour. The combination of Australians, kilometer arcs and vehicles seems an interesting one. When Sarah Hancock from the Australian broadcaster ABC Adelaide is in the finish area and is about to shoot a clip for television, she is interrupted. A huge truck rushes down the track - too huge a truck because it doesn't fit through the finish line. Luckily this is only made of light material, so that it is carried along directly without much resistance. No one was injured - even the bow was standing again when the women reached the finish line.
Annette Edmondson has won stage 1 of the women's @tourdownunder and the TDU finish sign has been resurrected! @abcadelaide pic.twitter.com/mSoRsMLvCs
