cycling: Team Sauerland starts at the Mallorca Challenge

22 January 2018 by Michael Behringer

Team Sauerland Grosser

Cycling: The German continental team Sauerland NRW p/b SKS Germany will start at the Mallorca Challenge. From Thursday to Sunday, four well-attended one-day races will take place on the Balearic Islands. The Sauerland NRW p/b SKS Germany team will meet top stars such as Alejandro Valverde (Movistar).

Team Sauerland can compete with the pros

Even if the Mallorca Challenge only belongs to category 1.1 and is therefore still a long way from WorldTour status, well-known teams and drivers come here year after year. The reason: Many teams train in Mallorca and the surrounding area in winter. Some familiar faces will therefore be seen at the Trofeo Campos, the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana, the Trofeo Lloseta-Andratx and the Trofeo Palma de Mallorca. Among others, the WorldTour teams Bora-hansgrohe, Sky, Movistar, Lotto Soudal, Trek-Segafredo are there - and that Team Sauerland NRW p/b SKS Germany. You can look at this list, right?

Collect racing kilometers and create a surprise

In addition to drivers like Emmanuel Buchman (Bora-hansgrohe), Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal), Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) and Michal Kwiatkowski (Sky), viewers in Mallorca will also get to know Aaron Grosser, Felix Intra, Per Christian Münstermann, Luca Felix Happke, Christoph Schweizer, Jon Knolle, as well as Louis and Joann Leinau from Thursday. The first three drivers named have already collected their first training kilometers under the southern sun. Luca Felix Happke should be able to show a strong early form. As part of the Sixdays Bremen he finished third in the U23 Cup with his partner Arnd de Groote. This is what the NRW state coach said Wolfgang Oschwald to the Westfalenpost that you don't just want to gain experience on this adventure.

“It will be important that the boys fight their way through and collect their first race kilometers. A top placement will be difficult in view of the World Tour competition, but not impossible. Maybe we can get our sprinter Aaron Grosser into one or the other final. With the right rear wheel he can cause a surprise.”
