General: Bike Transalp 2018: "An extravagant and exciting mix"

7 December 2017 by Andrew Waldera

MTB cycling: A few days before the official start of registration, the organizers present the route of the Bike Transalp 2018. In mid-July, the two-person teams will ride in seven stages from Imst in Austria to Arco in Italy. 503 kilometers and 18.004 meters in altitude are on the program. A total package that is second to none is promised.

The online registration for the 12st edition of the Bike Transalp powered by Sigma opens on December 12th at 00:21 p.m. The tour of what is perhaps the most famous mountain bike stage race leads over 500 kilometers from Imst to Arco near Lake Garda. Over 18.000 vertical meters will make your calves burn on the seven stages. Stops on the week-long tour mark Nauders, Livigno, Bormio, Ponte di Legno, Val di Sole and Valle del Chiese. Route manager Marc Schneider about the Bike Transalp 2018: "The route of the 21st edition is a challenge, but also an extravagant and exciting mixture that you don't get everywhere."

In fact, the overall package sounds extremely promising. New trails on the Bergkastel in Nauders and freeride trails on the Carosello 3000 promise a lot of fun. Another highlight is a lonely mountain path far above the tree line on the stage to Passo Tonale. According to Schneider, there will also be a series of lonely nature trails, such as on the stage into the Chiese valley or in the Val di Ledro on the last stage. The route manager continues: "The Via Claudia in the Inn Valley on the first stage from Imst to Nauders is also one of them. There is also enough for the eyes again: the panoramas around the Ortler, Adamello Group and Brenta are first class in the Alps.”

Stage 1: Imst - Nauders: 88,90 km; 2.942 Hm

Stage 2: Nauders – Livigno: 101,82 km; 3.512 hmm

Stage 3: Livigno – Bormio: 67,98 km; 2.239 hmm

Stage 4: Bormio – Ponte di Legno: 57,66 km; 2.393 hmm

Stage 5: Ponte di Legno – Val di Sole: 49,66 km; 1.967 hmm

Stage 6: Val di Sole – Valle del Chiese: 78,96 km; 2.772 m

Stage 7: Valle del Chiese – Arco: 58,56 km; 2.179 hmm
