Bulls E-MTBs 2018: Great variety & well thought-out concept

21 November 2017 by Michael Faiss

Product News | Bulls E-MTBs 2018: There are numerous innovations at Bulls 2018 in the E-Fully segment. They still offer bikes with drives from all three major manufacturers, but have designed completely new frames and are fully committed to the topic of integration. For example, all Bosch E-Fullies come with an integrated PowerTube 500 battery.

The great diversity is already evident from the fact that the drive systems will continue to be three-pronged in the coming season and will have models with Bosch, Brose and Shimano motors in the portfolio. When it comes to aligning the bike itself, the E-Fully program is also divided into three categories:

Trail / Tour (TR): The models offer 120mm of spring travel at the front and rear and sporty equipment, albeit not geared towards extreme use.

All Mountain (AM): The all-mountain bikes are the all-rounders in the Bulls E-MTB program 2018 - with 150mm spring travel and an overall somewhat more downhill-oriented geometry and equipment, everything is possible here from a leisurely tour to the occasional bike park excursion.

Enduro (EN): For really rough terrain, from difficult alpine trails to downhill routes in the bike park, everything is possible with the E-Enduro at Bulls 2018. It offers a full 180mm of travel and a correspondingly aggressive geometry.

Bulls E-MTBs 2018: Trail / Tour

Regardless of the engine manufacturer, the trail and touring bikes all offer 120mm of spring travel at the front and rear, come with 27,5+ tires for plenty of grip and comfort and a sporty but not too extreme geometry that even occasional riders quickly feel at home with feel. Interested parties can choose between a total of five models.

Bulls trail/touring fullies with Bosch drive

The largest selection of Bulls Trail E-MTBs are bikes with Bosch drives. The Six50 Evo TR comes in three configurations, all with the powerful Performance CX motor and the 500Wh battery integrated in the down tube. The equipment ranges from cheap and pragmatic in the case of the Six50 TR1 to sporty and high quality. The top model TR3 comes with Rock Shox suspension, Shimano XT gears, Magura MT5 4-piston brakes and a dropper post from Kindshock.

Bulls trail/touring fullies with Brose drive

The only trail fully with a Brose drive in 2018 is called the E-Stream Evo TR2 and, like all Brose bikes, scores with a slim silhouette and great motor integration. The equipment is good, the chassis is solid.

Bulls trail/touring fullies with Shimano drive

The Bulls E-Core Evo TR2 comes in two color variants for 2018 and like all E-Fullies from Bulls 2018 with a battery integrated in the down tube. The equipment is the same as the Brose counterpart except for the Magura brake system and the tires, so the Shimano bikes are a bit sportier overall.

Our advice: Lots of choice, but which E-Trailfully from Bulls suits whom? The E-Stream Evo with Brose motor is definitely a good choice for those who like to ride leisurely tours, don't want to do without the comfort of full suspension and maybe even want to ride an easy trail. The engine is nice and quiet, thanks to the long chain stays the bike is very calm and the look is extremely successful. For those who like to be out on the trails more, we recommend either the Six50 Evo with Bosch or the E-Core with Shimano drive. Both drive systems have their strengths - if Shimano can score with a lot of dynamics, for example, the irresistible torque of the Performance CX motor is still unmatched.

Bulls E-MTBs 2018

If you place great value on agile handling, you can hardly ignore the E-Core: The chainstays are significantly shorter here, which should make the bike noticeably more playful. Smaller riders could also be happy with the Shimano version, as the short rear harmonises better with a short main frame in size S. Plus point for the Six50 TR3: It is the only one of the trail fullies that comes with a retractable seat post.

Bulls E-MTBs 2018: All-mountain

With eight models, Bulls has the largest selection in the AM and Allmountain range in 2018. That's not surprising, because the bikes with 150mm of spring travel are extremely good all-rounders, which cut a very good figure on the trail thanks to powerful chassis and descent-oriented orientation, not least because of the powerful drives - regardless of the manufacturer - but also convince as a sporty touring bike. Also very nice: All AM models from Bulls come from the factory in 2018 with a variable support.

Bulls all-mountain fullies with Bosch drive

As with the trail fullies, there is also the largest selection with a Bosch drive in the AM area. Of course, all equipment variants come with the powerful Performance CX drive and the 500Wh battery in the down tube. The range of equipment is large: while the AM1 model is clearly aimed at trail beginners, the top model AM4 comes with a classy Fox Factory chassis and XTR gears, among other things.

Bulls all-mountain fullies with Brose drive

The two AM fullies with Brose drive are in the upper middle class. With suspension from Rock Shox, powerful MT5 brakes from Magura and Kind Shock Dropper Posts, even heavier trail excursions are no problem. Especially the AM4 variant with the Magic Mary on the front wheel clearly shows where the journey is going: Down!

Bulls all-mountain fullies with Shimano drive

How classy can it be? Both AM fullies with Shimano drive from Bulls leave nothing to be desired in terms of equipment in 2018. The slightly cheaper model comes with Rock Shox suspension and Shimano's electronic XT Di2 gears, while the top model with Fox Factory suspension including matching dropper post, snappy MT7 brakes from Magura and DT Swiss wheelset goes one better.

Our advice: With the new Allmountain E-Fullies, Bulls is taking a huge step forward in 2018. The geometries and equipment clearly show the sporty orientation of the bikes and also underline: Here you are dealing with serious mountain bikes that don't have to shy away from any trails in the bike park, in Vinschgau or on Lake Garda.

Sporty mountain bikers who want a dynamic drive and love to circle their bikes around tight bends should definitely take a look at the two E-Core AM models with Shimano drives. The chainstays are shorter than on many mountain bikes without a motor, the rest of the geometry is balanced, and the equipment in both versions is high-quality. The top model in particular should make one or the other biker's mouth water. The same applies to the most expensive variant of the four Six50 Evo AM bikes with Bosch drive. Thanks to longer struts, smooth running is the order of the day, and the motor also has a little more oomph than the competition from Japan.

The two Brose variants with the name E-Stream should also not be underestimated. Visually, they are undoubtedly the most pleasing bikes in the series and the Brose drive not only feels wonderfully natural, but is also probably the quietest of all mid-motors.

Bulls E-MTBs 2018: Enduro / Freeride

Drops, doubles, north shores and tables: If your legs start to itch when you read these words, then the E-Core Evo EN is the right choice for you. The new addition for the 2018 model year offers a full 180mm of spring travel at the front and rear, a downhill-oriented geometry with a 65 mm steering angle and the right equipment. There's only the best of the best here: Float X2 dampers, Saint brakes, HX-1501 wheels and beefy Magic Mary 2,6″ tires with a soft rubber compound and stable Apex carcass. The asking price of €6.499 is extremely fair for the high-quality equipment on offer.

That would also look good on a downhiller. Anyway: We would almost classify the Bulls E-Core EN Di2 as a classic freerider. Just right for regular bike park visitors who want to save on the lift ticket in the future.
