Spectrum: Together with the newly crowned road world champion Peter Sagan, MTB world champion Alban Lakata opened the new MTB trail named after him on the Hochstein in East Tyrol. The route is 2,2 km long and should be equally suitable for beginners and advanced drivers. In East Tyrol, the MTB trend is also being taken into account with the new trail – recently the proportion of cycle tourists in summer has risen by over 20 percent.
A few days ago he wrote cycling history with his third world championship title in a row, yesterday Peter Sagan swapped his racer for a mountain bike again. But the appointment he made in East Tyrol was more in the 'fun' category - together with the reigning MTB world champion Alban Lakata, Sagan paid a visit to the recently completed Lakata Trail in the east of Tyrol, on the Hochstein near Lienz.
The entrance to the slightly more than 2.000m long trail is located directly at the Moosalm, which meanders from there partly through forests, partly over the ski slope in the direction of the valley. Right at the beginning there are a few jumps, tight curves and north shores, which are also challenging for experienced riders. However, easier passages also make the trail suitable for beginners. Peter Sagan was at least extremely impressed with the track: “I still mountain bike. The route of the new trail, which bears Alban's cool name, is really successful and offers something for every type of rider! The first rides were spectacular. I already congratulate the East Tyroleans on the MTB project."
The region is currently investing heavily in the mountain bike sector. The hiking trail network at the Glocknerresort Kals was recently expanded to include a number of new MTB trails. Another completely new trail is also under construction and should be finished this season. Franz Theurl, chairman of the Osttirol Tourism Association, has ambitious goals for the future: “The fact is: the Lienz Dolomites region has the potential to become one of the leading bike destinations in the Alps in a few years. The "Lakata" trail and parks in Kals are just the beginning. "
The Lakata Trail is now open to the public and can be used freely depending on the length of the weather.
