Cycling with FreeMotion in the Canary Islands: Wherever there is summer

23 December 2019 by the editorial office

Travel: Gray in gray and rainy, that's what winter in Germany is like now and snow is hardly to be thought of. Especially for us cyclists, this time of the year in Germany is not really ideal. Because once the conditions are good, the weaker self has to be overcome first.

But somewhere in the world it's always summer and there are perfect cycling conditions. Among the many cycling destinations in the German winter, the Canary Islands are way ahead. The journey is quick and easy by plane, the time difference is not worth mentioning and the archipelago west of Africa offers the best conditions almost 365 days a year.

The main island of Gran Canaria can be reached by direct flight from many German metropolises via Las Palmas Airport. In February, about a month and a half in advance, a direct flight from Munich to Las Palmas costs from 164 euros and you escape the winter in less than five hours flight time.

Free Motion: A perfect local bike partner

If you like cycling and don't necessarily want to push your bike through the airport yourself, Free Motion is the place for you. The full-service provider on the Canary Islands is not only a rental station, but also a service workshop, tour provider and contact person in one.

With nine locations spread over three islands, Free Motion offers holidaymakers on the Canary Islands more than enough contact points. With six different locations, Gran Canaria is the island with the highest density of bike shops. These include Las Palmas, Playa del Inglés, Meloneras, San Augustín, Puerto de Mogán and Arguineguín. The two locations in Tenerife are in Los Christianos and Tenerife T3. There is also a Free Motion bike shop in Puerto del Carmen on Lanzarote.

Free Motion: The latest bikes to test

The rental bike fleet at Free Motion changes every year, so you always have the latest bike to choose from. Now for the 2019/20 winter season, most of the 2020 models are already available. In addition to the latest Specialized Roubaix, the Cannondale Habit and the e-bike BH AtomX Lynx are also back.

Whether road, e-road, mountain, e-mountain or just the comfortable touring bike. The right bike is available for all requirements and activities. In order to really get the bike you want during your own stay, we recommend booking in advance. Bikes are available from 8 euros per day.
