Last weekend, our Lübbering team was at the start of the legendary Nürburgring near Rad am Ring. Most of them arrived on Friday evening. With about 13.000 starters, the whole area and the parking lots around were more than full. Our team riders had to cope with 150 or 75 km with almost 3.600 or 1.800 meters of altitude difference. But the majority of the cyclists were divided into the 24-hour race, which had to be contested on MTBs, but also on racing bikes in a separate race. A lap is 25 km long, starting from the home stretch over part of the Grand Prix circuit and then over the Nordschleife. Over 20% incline and top speeds downhill of over 100 km/h made the race a real highlight of the season. The total opposite of a brutal descent is the miserably long climb up to the "high eight". The smallest sprocket, the biting heat rising from the floor covering give you goosebumps despite beads of sweat all over your body. The best asphalt, great weather and a rousing atmosphere on and around the race track also contributed to this, of course.
Countless spectators were waiting at the "high eight" who cheered us on loudly, handed out drinks and provided another adrenaline rush - just before we reached the home straight. It's just an indescribable feeling to be able to demonstrate your sprinting skills on the home straight on a racetrack, where otherwise only high-horsepower cars can develop their power. The ranks were not filled like in a Formula 1 race, but the active support of the spectators was always to be expected.
But not only the edge of the race track was well used by the visitors. The exhibition center as part of the Expo, with a large stage on which the award ceremonies took place during the day and a band played in the evening, was always well filled.
All in all a great event with many facets that ambitious cyclists simply have to experience. We are already looking forward to participating next year, with hopefully just as good weather as this year.
Thank you to all the teammates who were there. It was once again a great weekend!
Best regards,
Marius
