Cycling: Edward Theuns (Trek-Segafredo) won a chaotic sprint on stage four of the BinckBank Tour. The Belgian was able to place ahead of Marko Kump (UAE) and Tim Merlier (Vérandas Willems-Crelan). The German top sprinters had no chance.
If Edward Theuns wins, Peter Sagan misses his 100th success
While Edward Theuns was visibly happy about his stage win, Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) missed further bonus seconds with fourth place. The world champion is still five seconds behind the leading Swiss rider Stefan Küng (BMC) in the BinckBank Tour overall standings. Phil Bauhaus (Sunweb) was again the best German today with ninth place. Peter Sagan will also try to get another win with the remaining three stages. That would be his 100th success.
Tomorrow at the BinckBank Tour: 21 Hellingen & 3 x cobblestones
Although tomorrow – as is always the case with the BeNeLux Tour – there will be no high mountains, it could be an extremely exciting stage. While a simple bunch sprint is possible, a properly picked field is much more likely. After all, no fewer than 21 slipways and three passages with cobblestones are on the program. The pavée sections are only 340 meters long, but the last part has to be completed 1,3 kilometers before the finish line. Peter Sagan should be in good hands to get his 100th win.
