MTB cycling: At the La Montagnetta in Milan, the Swiss Florian Vogel from Team Focus XC left the two Cannondale riders Maxime Marotte and Manuel Fumic behind. The women's race was won by Maja Wloszczowska from Poland ahead of Alessandra Keller and Jolanda Neff.
For the Confederates, the La Montagnetta MTB race was a very lucky one. Three drivers from Switzerland made it onto the podium in the Elite Men / Elite Women categories. The men's race was determined by Manuel Fumic and his new French teammate Maxime Marotte, with Florian Vogel on their heels. The Swiss, who initially acted defensively, used a small hole by Fumic for the decisive action and even Marotte, who was still fighting stubbornly, couldn't stand up to the Swiss afterwards. In the end, Florian Vogel won with a lead of 22 seconds over Maxime Marotte and 34 seconds over Manuel Fumic. The other places went to Andrea Tiberi from Italy and Bartlomej Wawak (Kross Racing) from Poland. For the German champion Markus Schulte-Lünzum (Focus XC) was only 14th place after a previous cold.
In the women's category, two Swiss women were directly on the podium, but the winner was Maja Wloszczowska (Kross Racing), who came from Poland and won the Olympic silver medal. 18 seconds separated the winner from second-placed Alessandra Keller (Radon Factory Racing). Jolanda Neff, also starting for the Kross Racing team, crossed the finish line in third place, 49 seconds behind. German Vice Champion Helen Grobert (Cannondale Factory Racing) finished sixth.
The MTB race La Montagnetta is part of the Internazionali d'Italia Series 2017, which consists of a total of five races. After the opening race Verona MTB International, Milan marked the second stop of the series. Three races are still open: on April 2nd the Trofeo Delcar Montichiari event, the Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race Nalles on April 9th and the MTB Event XCO Courmayeur at the beginning of June 2017.
