Market: The manufacturer Genesis should be known primarily to steel aficionados and UK fans. Now that a German distributor has been found in Traffic, this is bound to change in the future. At the Berlin Bicycle Show we took a closer look at one of the successful models.
Steel frames are currently celebrating a revival that most experts would hardly have thought possible five or ten years ago. Especially with touring bikes, gravel bikes, but also with crossers and similar drop-bar bikes, more and more bike fans are back to the traditional frame material. On the island in particular - i.e. in Great Britain - almost every manufacturer has one or more bikes with steel frames in their range. So does Genesis; previously, the bikes from the British manufacturer were only available in very few selected shops or over the internet. Since March 1st, however, Traffic has also been a German distributor.
A small selection from the extensive model range was already presented at the Berlin Bicycle Show. We were particularly taken with the all-rounder Croix de Fer. Named after the notorious pass in the French part of the Alps, the steel bike is a visually classic all-rounder somewhere between cross, gravel, bikepacking and commuting. The 2017 variant of the Croix de Fer 20 will be available at an RRP of €1.439,99.
The highlight of the bike is undoubtedly the frame set: the Reynolds 725 tube set combines stability, weight with slim diameters and the calm blue paintwork underlines the classic character of the Genesis Croix de Fer. The equipment of the Croix de Fer 20 is rather pragmatic - in view of the low price this is not a big surprise. The Shimano Tiagra circuit ensures a sufficient range for any application. The TRP HY/RD brake is quite impressive for a total price of less than €1.500. As befits a bike in the Croix de Fer class, there are threaded eyelets for mudguards and luggage racks at the front and rear on the frame and fork.

Nice bike! I wasn't even aware that Genesis is hardly widespread in Germany. In the trusted bike shop (Leipzig) there have been various models available for years. That's how I got my Genesis two years ago.

Which store is that?
Paul says
The Bike Department East has sold them so far. Unfortunately there is only one left in the store, they are no longer ordered. Unfortunately.
