Product news: Bikepacking film "Baja Divide": Premiere at the Berlin Bicycle Show

February 27, 2017 by Michael Faiss

Spectrum: As part of the Berlin Bicycle Show, the Cologne-based bike manufacturer Bombtrack is presenting “Baja Divide”, a documentary about one of the most popular bikepacking routes in the world at the moment. The recordings accompany Franzi and Jona, an adventure duo from Germany, who have taken on the more than 2.500km challenge of the Baja Divide.

The Baja Divide is currently one of the most popular and challenging bikepacking routes in the world. It's almost 3.000km across the Mexican peninsula of Baja California through sparsely populated coastal regions over roads covered in desert sand or directly over the deep sand. Breathtaking backdrops and beautiful landscapes await almost every kilometer, so it's not particularly surprising that so many bike packers are currently venturing into the "Baja Divide" adventure.

Two of these adventurers are Franzi and Jona. After the two had already hiked for several months through New Zealand, India and Nepal and completed the bikepacking epic The Great Divide in the USA, they were looking for a new challenge in the late summer of last year. In the meantime, the German bicycle manufacturer Bombtrack had taken notice of the adventure duo and without further ado provided them with a Bombtrack Beyond+ for their next bikepacking venture. In the end, Franzi and Jona chose the Baja Divide: from San Diego to La Paz in Mexico. A film crew was always there to collect material for a documentary. These are the first moving images of this kind from the Baja Divide and the approximately 15-minute documentary will celebrate its premiere next weekend as part of the Berlin Bicycle Show.
