Product news: Not just for the sake of the environment: iFixit – repair instead of throwing away!

14 December 2016 by Andrew Waldera

Market: Nowadays everything ends up in the garbage far too quickly – even high-quality products are not excluded from this! But what to do if a product is damaged and therefore supposedly needs to be disposed of? The answer is very simple: repair it yourself! Vaude is the first European outdoor manufacturer to provide repair and care instructions on the iFixit online platform.

With the new offer on iFixit, the Black Forest outdoor brand is expanding its sustainability concept with another important service point. In addition to using the in-house Vaude repair service, which has been repairing minor and major damage for many years, customers can now also take action themselves. However, a little manual skill should be available - and of course fun with the thing. But it's worth it! The do-it-yourself repair not only protects the environment, but also the household budget! Any spare parts that may be required for the repair can be conveniently ordered from iFixit or specialist retailers.

iFixit: Do-it-yourself repairs are all the rage!

The step-by-step instructions on the internet platform iFixit are enjoying increasing popularity. The offer ranges from clothing to electronics to cars. The extensive offer is used by around two million registered users worldwide. However, manufacturers play a key role in the development of new products with regard to repair options. Matthias Mayer, Managing Director of iFixit, puts it in a nutshell: "Ideally, manufacturers think about the repairability of their products right from the design stage and promote this by providing repair instructions and spare parts." In this context, the Vaude brand is recognized by iFixit especially praised. Of course, the Vaude repair service at the company headquarters in Tettnang will continue to exist - for everyone who doesn't quite like being active themselves or who simply needs more technical skills or knowledge.
