News in brief: Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) tops the rider rankings at the end of the 2016 WorldTour season. The reigning World Champion has this honor for the first time in his career and is the result of another great season, after which he has not less than ten WorldTour victories to his name. After the dissolution of his current team Tinkoff, Sagan will join the German racing team Bora-Hansgrohe for the coming season.
“Ending the season at the top of the UCI WorldTour rankings is of course a great honor and a great reward for every rider. It's the first time in my professional career that I've managed to do this and I'm really happy. It's the result of a strong and consistent performance throughout the year, it's a mix between my own performance and the support of my team and partners." Sagan is quoted as saying in a statement from his team.
Nairo Quintana (Movistar) and Christopher Froome (Sky) follow in second and third place.
