Test ride: After the HTA-Steps e-hardtail, Drössinger now also dares to try an e-bike fully. The basis for this is the well-known XRA-Fully series. The first prototype was completed in time for the Eurobike and we were able to take a first look at it between the exhibition halls.
The basis for the new E-Fully is the well-known all-mountain platform XRA from Drössiger with the corresponding modern geometry according to the motto short-flat-long. That means a short, flat front with a rather longer top tube. The result is a bike that supports the driver in both technical and fast passages. Drössiger has given the bike 150 mm of travel at the front and rear, which in combination with the wide 650B Plus wheels should offer large reserves and should only really reach its limits with larger obstacles.
As with the non-motorized models, Drösigger also relies on the Boost standard for the e-bike, which, among other things, offers better chain guidance for 1-speed gears and also enables stiffer wheels thanks to the wider hubs. Here, too, a 1×11 Shimano XT gear system with a large 46 sprocket is used to master even the steepest ramps. The design of the new Shimano E8000 electric motor allows the designers to implement the short chain stays typical of Drössiger on the E-Fully, so you don't have to compromise on the maneuverability of the bike compared to its non-motorized relatives.
We were able to do a short lap with the new bike between the exhibition halls and were particularly excited about the new Shimano motor, but since it is still in the prototype status we cannot make a final judgment on it yet. But so much in advance we could already feel the increase in torque especially for MTB use and the motor shuts down extremely quickly after you no longer put any power on the pedal, which is an extremely valuable feature for MTB use because you are can quickly adapt to changing situations. The motor display is discreetly integrated behind the handlebars and shows the current speed, battery level, current riding mode (Eco, Trail and Boost) and the current level of motor support. The riding modes are controlled via shifters similar to a shift lever on the left side of the handlebars, which is very easy to use.
The XRA e-bike is planned in 3 equipment variants. It should start at around 4000 euros and the top version, equipped roughly like the prototype bike with XT, Rock Shox chassis and light 650B Plus wheels at the fair, will cost around 5500 euros. However, prices and equipment have not yet been finalized and changes may still occur.
Conclusion: The first impression of the bike on us was very consistent and we are already excited to ride the first series bikes on trails that are suitable for the bike.
