It's finally here again! Actually since the end of the last tour in the USA I was already looking forward to a repeat. It is simply a special experience to tackle this varied landscape by bike. As you might have guessed, I'm back on the road for Away with the Champs, this time in Colorado. Eleven wonderful days await on the saddle, which will take us to the Rocky Mountains.
It started the day before yesterday... after all the participants had arrived in Denver the night before, our first tour started in the famous ski resort of Aspen. At the beginning we took it easy, so that there was some time to chat and get to know each other. The 45km and 600hm were great for getting in and everyone was able to recover a bit from the jetlag and the long journey.
We are still at the Limelight Hotel in Aspen and have increased the distance a bit: Today it was 80km and almost 1.000m in altitude. The weather and conditions are still fantastic: Hardly any wind, temperatures around 25°C and bright sunshine - what more could a cycling heart want? In any case, we let the day end very relaxed after the ride and try to recharge our batteries, because tomorrow the first major challenge is on the agenda: It goes to Crested Buttle over two passes and almost 1.800 meters in altitude over 175km. Incidentally, we are driving on the tracks of the US Pro Challenge, where this route has been the king stage several times. At the destination we will set up camp for the next two nights... you will definitely hear from me again there!
Now I'm still enjoying the last rays of sunshine and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's ride.
Until then,
Your Ulle
