Cycling: Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) also won stage 4 of the Eneco Tour. In a gripping sprint, he prevailed against André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) in the photo finish. The Slovak also took the lead in the overall standings thanks to the time bonus.
Leading group narrowly misses a violent fall
The 4th stage took the riders from Aalter to Sint-Pieters-Leeuwel over 202 kilometers through Belgium. There were 13 cobblestone passages and four slipways to survive, but none of the drivers presented any major problems. Nevertheless, there were constant attacks during the race, so that the sprinter teams had to be alert at all times. In the last few kilometers, three riders were ahead of the peloton. They then narrowly avoided a devastating crash when a support bike lost control in a roundabout and narrowly missed them. There was another fall in the last two kilometers in the peloton.
The finish was one meter too short for André Greipel
Despite the falls, the expected mass sprint finally took place, which was again chaotic and hard-fought. Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) was the first top sprinter to keep his nose in the wind, but Peter Sagan (Tinkoff), Arnaud Démare (FDJ) and André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) were lurking at his rear wheel. While Sagan and Démare briefly had physical contact and almost pushed each other off After getting his bike, Greipel started to pass the World Champion on the left Kristoff was beaten but Sagan's Tiger Leap finally saved him a few inches over the finish line ahead of Greipel with him stage win. But Peter Sagan won again, who was able to take over the overall lead from Rohan Dennis (BMC) thanks to the time bonus. John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin) finished sixth. Marcel Kittel (Etixx-Quick Step) was in the Final nothing to see.
