Cycling: According to a report by the cycling news portal cyclingnews.com, Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) signed a contract with Trek-Segafredo for the coming season on yesterday's rest day of the Tour de France. Although last year's Giro winner had to leave the Tour due to illness, the Spaniard would still be a great addition to the US team's ranking rider lineup.
In the report, the British portal refers to sources close to Contador – according to which the 33-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Trek-Segafredo, with the second year being optional for both sides. This is certainly also a concession to the advanced age of the top driver, who has repeatedly struggled with minor injuries and colds in recent years. Contador will be allowed to bring up to two drivers to his new team – one of whom will probably be his compatriot and Tinkoff teammate Jesus Hernandez.
One of Tinkoff's top professionals has probably already found a new sporting home after team boss Oleg Tinkoff announced his retirement and the dissolution of the team at the beginning of the year. In the next few weeks, the rumor mill about the names Peter Sagan, Rafal Majka and Roman Kreuziger should boil up again. If Contador's move is confirmed, the Spaniard could become a new team-mate next season for John Degenkolb, who is also associated with the US team and announced his departure from current team Giant-Alpecin a few days ago.
