MTB cycling: After her third win in a row, Brit Rachel Atherton (Trek Factory Racing DH Team) is slowly but surely going it alone at this year's UCI DH World Cup. In the men's race, on the other hand, things remain extremely exciting: three World Cup races, three different winners - this time in Scotland, the South African Greg Minnaar (Team Santa Cruz Syndicate) won the final race.
After qualifying, things didn't look too good for Greg Minnaar: The South African had to start the race very early on the final day from 113th place. After the disastrous result the day before, he set an unbelievable time on the Scottish track on Sunday: 4:35,601 minutes. A time that put the South African over seven seconds faster than qualifying fastest Gee Atherton (Trek Factory Racing DH). None of the following starters was able to undercut this fabulous time in the final. Aaron Gwin (The YT Mob) set the second fastest time, 3,357 seconds behind, while MS Mondraker team driver Danny Hart (+3,995 seconds) secured third place. Johannes Fischbach (Radon Magura Factory Team) was the fastest German in 25th place.
Three races, three victories: Rachel Atherton didn't miss a beat in the third round of the 2016 UCI DH Mountain Bike World Cup in Fort William. Who can still slow down the British? Maybe Manon Carpenter (Madison Saracen Factory Team), who was still 4,861s quicker than Rachel Atherton, at least in qualifying. On the final day, however, a well-known picture followed: Rachel Atherton driving unleashed and giving her competitors no chance. With a lead of 12,049 seconds, she relegated Tracey Hannah (Polygon UR) to second place, while Manon Carpenter, the fastest in qualifying, was 20,889 seconds behind the winner. Steffi Marth, the only German driver in the starting field, finished 22nd.
The fourth round of the UCI DH Mountain Bike World Cup 2016 will take place next weekend in Leogang / Austria. The finals on Sunday will again be streamed live by Redbull.TV.
