Cycling: Former pro David Canada fell badly during a gran fondo in Spain yesterday and succumbed to his head injuries on the spot. The 41-year-old celebrated his greatest success in 2006 when he won the Tour of Catalonia in Saunier Duval-Prodir's jersey.
Really sad news from Spain. During Towcar Port Ribagorza Gran Fondos in northeastern Spain, former pro David Canada collided with a fellow rider and fell on his head at high speed. He sustained serious injuries and the 41-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.
From 1996 to 2008, Canada was part of the pro peloton but had to retire in 2009 after beating a previously diagnosed skin cancer but not being able to return to his previous level of performance. However, the 2006 Tour of Catalonia winner has been very active in the amateur sector in recent years and has competed in numerous races.
Our condolences to family and friends.
