Market: More than almost any other European outdoor outfitter, VAUDE relies on the sustainable and climate-neutral manufacture of its products. With the 2016 bike collection, the company from Tettnang proves that this does not have to be at the expense of function, comfort and appearance. We dared to take a first look at the highlights of the new range!
Moab Allmountain flat pedal shoe series
When developing the Moab flat pedal shoe series, the engineers focused on several goals: effective power transmission, high grip, walking comfort and the use of environmentally friendly materials. The result is the two models Moab Low AM and Moab Mid STX AM, both of which meet the strict Green Shape criteria. For the upper, VAUDE uses certified Terracare leather from the German leather factory Heinen, which comes from German cattle and is sustainably tanned. The insole and lining material are made from 50% recycled material. Even the laces are made from recycled PET.
The profile structure of the shoe, which is flattened in the ball and foot area, is intended to ensure ideal support and efficient power transmission. The more pronounced profile in the toe and heel area, on the other hand, is intended to ensure sure-footedness when carrying the shoe and also offer a high level of walking comfort. The VAUDE Moab Mid STX AM is a mid-cut, waterproof model with a PTFE-free and 100% recyclable Sympatex membrane. The Moab flat pedal shoes are available at a price of 140,00 euros (Moab Low AM) or 180,00 euros (Moab Mid STX AM).
Windbreaker Tremalzo
This chic blouson that you can put on upside down is both functional and environmentally friendly. VAUDE does not use the very controversial PFC that is often used for water-repellent fabrics and instead uses the environmentally friendly Eco Finish. Thanks to the bluesign-certified Windproof 80 function, bikers benefit from high breathability and thus a high feel-good factor, without harming the environment or the biker himself.
The integrated underarm ventilation allows additional ventilation during sweaty activities. Side 2-way zips make it easier to slip the Tremalzo windbreaker over your head. The two front pockets not only offer storage space, but can also be used as additional ventilation thanks to the mesh material. The Tremalzo Blouson is available for men or women at a price of 100,00 euros.
Advanced cycling shorts series
It's amazing what can be made from old fishing nets and coffee grounds! With the new Advanced series of cycling shorts, VAUDE goes one step further and consistently focuses on recycling. Tons of used fishing nets floating in the sea put the ecosystem to a severe and dangerous test. The nets are collected and processed into polyamide - this saves energy and valuable crude oil, and thus protects the environment significantly! According to the manufacturer, the recycled Econyl material is in no way inferior to new products in terms of performance.
VAUDE refines the recycled fabric in the Advanced cycling shorts series with stretch material to ensure the wearer an ideal fit and even more freedom of movement. Flat waistband and seams are designed to increase wearing comfort. VAUDE is also going its own way with the upholstery, using recycled coffee grounds. Recycled S-Cafe polyester is used for the outer fabric of the upholstery, the foam layer close to the body contains S-Cafe oil. According to VAUDE, the material is quick-drying, UV-resistant and odour-inhibiting. The pants are available in six different models in different colors, the price is between 70,00 and 100,00 euros.
Lightweight gear for minimalists
Concentration on the essentials characterizes the lightweight equipment for minimalists. And the good thing is: where material and weight are saved, resources are also conserved! The three models in the Uphill backpack series and the Pro Windshell jacket follow this motto. The backpacks are made of light, siliconized 40D Rip-Stop material. This material is also known from VAUDE tent development. Shoulder straps, hip belt and buckles are also designed to be lightweight. Well thought-out detailed solutions and the body contact back system also characterize this backpack series. Available in three sizes between 70,00 and 80,00 euros.
The Pro Windshell jacket is an absolute lightweight. Despite its low weight, the biker does not have to do without function and comfort. As you would expect from a clothing manufacturer from Tettnang, the Green Shape jacket is made from bluesign-certified main material. The lightest VAUDE wind jacket with Windproof 80 function has elastic stretch inserts and can be tucked into its back pocket when not in use. The price of the jacket, which is available for women or men, is 90,00 euros.
