Track News: On the afternoon of the second day, the German athletes can celebrate a title for the first time at the Track World Championships in London. Joachim Eilers prevailed in the 1.000m time trial against Theo Bos from the Netherlands and Quentin Lagargue from France - gold for the 25-year-old German!
So what! It finally worked out for Joachim Eilers – after the now 25-year-old had to be content with the silver medal at the World Time Trial Championships in the past two years, it was finally enough for the title. With a time of 1:00,042 minutes, he relegated the representatives from the Netherlands (Theo Bos, 1:00,461) and France (Quentin Lagargue, 1:01,581) to places. It was a real heart-stopping final: For a long time it looked as if Eilers would 'only' stay silver again this year behind the strong Theo Bos, who held the best time until just before the end. Only in the last third was Eilers able to improve decisively and push past Bos.
Things are looking good in the keirin too: Kristina Vogel had no trouble reaching the semi-finals. The final run takes place tonight. Unfortunately, the German foursome could not improve significantly after a mixed performance in yesterday's qualification. In the first lap, with a time of 4:00,032, it was only enough for sixth place. Against the quartet from Russia it is then in the evening for fifth place.
