Cycling: The fifth stop of the Specialized-Sram Enduro Series was held in beautiful Vogtland last weekend. Michal Prokop and Raphaela Richter were able to dominate again and won in Schöneck.
Since the Enduro DM last year, Bikewelt Schöneck has blossomed into one of the most popular bike parks in Germany. In the last few months, people have stepped on the gas, expanded the park and created several varied routes. No one was surprised that the Specialized-Sram Enduro series, Germany's largest Enduro racing series, would stop here.
After running the prologue through the old town of Schöneck, just like at the Enduro DM on the evening before the race, it was time for the routes in the bike park on Sunday. While stages one and four led entirely on the laid-out routes of the Bikewelt Schöneck through berms and one or the other root passage, stage two went through the city park in the direction of the city center. There was also the start of the third stage, which led over artificial, rather enduro-untypical obstacles and required some pedaling power from the participants.
After a long transfer parallel to the ski jump, stage five led steeply, rooted and with lots of curves towards the valley and ended spectacularly in the target area of the jump, while stage six, after another long transfer, quickly went through flatter terrain. The last and seventh stage started again in a multi-storey car park in an environment unfamiliar to enduro racers, then turned into a jump-heavy stretch of the Bikewelt Schöneck and ended directly at the finish of the race.
At the end of the day it was again the Czech Michal Prokop who won the Elite Men. The German enduro wonder Raphaela Richter was also able to record another victory and lived up to her role as favourite.
