General: US Cup #2: Third place for Manuel Fumic

March 22, 2015 by Andrew Waldera

uscup

MTB cycling: After his eleventh place in the opening race at Bonelli Park, Manuel Fumic finished on the podium in the second race of the US Cup. Only Raphael Gagne and Fumic's teammate Anton Cooper were faster than the Cannondale team rider. After finishing third in Bonelli Park, he clearly won the day's victory in Fontana.

Over the course of the race, Manuel Fumic stayed relatively defensively at the rear of the leading group, but fought his way into third place in the last third of the race. However, the pursuers were unable to neutralize Anton Cooper's final attack. In the last of six laps, the lead of the New Zealand champions increased enormously on a tarmac climb. Cooper crossed the finish line 13 seconds ahead of Canada's Gagne, who topped the podium last week.

In the women's category, Katerina Nash won in Fontana ahead of Georgia Gould and Emily Batty. The LUNA Chix team was able to win the top two podium places in the gripping race. Trek team rider Batty could have done better than third place, but she went down in a technical passage while she was second.
