Cycling: Bradley Wiggins will turn his back on road cycling at the end of April this year and focus on track cycling. For this he has now set up his very own team, Team Wiggins.
Sir Bradley Wiggins, winner of the 2012 Tour, has confirmed the formation of his own team. Under WIGGINS he will concentrate on various track races together with a selected team and work towards the 2016 Games. With the support of the British Cycling Federation and Sky, the Continental Team will do everything in its power to lead Bradley Wiggins to his eighth Olympic medal, making him the most successful British Olympian.
“Cycling has given me so much. Now I want to give back, inspire the youth and reach out to the masses. My message is simple: If I can do it, so can you.", Wiggins said in a statement.
Another big goal is the hour record, which Wiggins will be tackling this year. “Even as a little boy I dreamed of setting a world hour record. Anyone can try the record and compete with the world's best. Cycling has grown in popularity and with the record I want WIGGINS to inspire a new generation of cyclists.”
Team WIGGINS will initially consist of British drivers Andy Tennant, Owain Doull, Mark Christian, Jon Dibben, Steven Burke, Daniel Patten, Mike Thompson and Iain Paton.
