Cycling: Bradley Wiggins has revealed details of his new development team.
Team Wiggins, which will focus specifically on track events, will initially consist of eight riders and has UCI Continental status. Wiggins himself will be captain and will join the team after his commitment to Sky in the spring. The team's main goal is to develop a team pursuit centered around Bradley Wiggins by the time of the Rio de Janiero Olympics.
Among the eight riders are already experienced athletes, such as 26-year-old Steven Burke, winner of the team pursuit at the Olympic Games and World Championships in 2012. The other riders are Mark Christian, Jon Dibben, Owain Dull, Daniel Patten, Iain Paton, Andy Tennant, and Michael Thompson. This combination of experience and promising new British talent is set to lead Team Wiggins to success. There are plans to involve British Cycling Olympia Academy riders in the project should they show good form throughout the season.
The team will be led by the trio of Robert Dodds, Andrew McQuaid and Bradley Wiggins. They have a reported annual budget of £460.000.
