6000 meters were required, in the end the four divers covered a total distance of 8423 meters. The official title of the world record: Most in one hour - The Greatest Distance Cycled underwater by a team of four.
The four athletes are the experienced divers Jens Stötzner, Sven Jessl and Aron Faas from Nuremberg and Alexander Strasser from Meran. The Nuremberg diving school A-Dive.de was responsible for the preparation and support. Conventional bicycles were used for the world record attempt, but they were adapted to the conditions under water.
Because of the high water resistance, the bikes had an extremely short gear ratio and small spoilers provided the necessary downforce. With the additional weights, each bike weighed around 60 kilograms. In order to save valuable time, the divers used 15 liter scuba tanks and thus did not have to change the tank. The world record attempt was held as part of the ZDF television garden on tour in Meran.
